After the devastation of Sandy, thousands were left homeless so she organized Silver Gull Beach Club as the main donation point for the entire Breezy Point co-op. After many millions of dollars in historic renovations, the NY beach clubs are again open. Ortega recently founded the National Parks Arts Foundation, a nonprofit foundation bringing fine arts to National Parks, including the first ever “Artist in Residence Program” of any U.S. park concessionaire, museum exhibits, symposiums and workshops. From New York to Hawaii Ortega Family Enterprises has resorts, clubs, restaurants and stores across the United States both in national parks and private locations. Ortega takes on varied responsibilities in her family’s businesses, including creating partnerships between local groups, cultural entities and the park concessions. She meets with artists on reservations to select and purchase their unique jewelry and handicrafts and curates a variety of arts and outreach and community partnership programs. Ortega has studied forestry, geology and environmental studies at NAU in Flagstaff, Arizona, and has a BFA in sculpture and photography from Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon. She then moved to New York, another “city of the arts,” and joined a New York artists group and exhibited her work at Chase Manhattan Bank, galleries and other venues in the boroughs, Westchester and Greenwich, Conn. For two years, she worked on a summer film program for atrisk young women in Granada, Nicaragua. She is a professional photographer with works in museum collections, and occasionally leads large-format photography tours around the west and the world. In addition, Ortega has been the artist-in-residence at museums, national parks, monuments and international venues. Dr. Marilyn Galler Associate Director of Dialysis Facilities New York Hospital Queens Marilyn Galler, M.D., F.A.C.P., is associate director of Dialysis Facilities and director of the Renal Fellowship program at New York Hospital Queens, and is a clinical assistant professor of Medicine for Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Dr. Galler is also senior partner of Nephrology Associates. As a dedicated nephrologist with more than 30 years of experience, Dr. Galler cares for patients with acute and chronic renal disease, end stage renal disease, electrolyte disorders, difficult to control hypertensive patients and transplanted patients. Her peers have recognized her as a Castle Connolly “Top Doctor in New York” since 2001 and as a Key Professional Media “New York Super Doctor” since 2009. Most recently, Dr. Galler was recognized by her patients as one of Vitals’ “America’s Most Compassionate Doctors.” She also holds positions on national specialty committees including chairperson of the Network 2 Dialysis Grievance Committee and assistant chairperson of the renal Physicians Association Clinical Practice Committee. Dr. Galler has three children and one grandchild. Sharon B. DeVivo, EdD Senior Vice President Vaughn College Dr. Sharon B. DeVivo has been with Vaughn College since 1996. In that time, she has been responsible for different areas of the institution including academic affairs, development, admissions, financial aid, student affairs and public affairs. Her strategic objective is to transform teaching and learning, and create a unique Vaughn academic experience both inside and outside the classroom that engages faculty and students. During her tenure with Vaughn, DeVivo has led two strategic planning efforts that have assisted the college in transforming from primarily a training institution to one that offers a bachelor of science degree in engineering, management and aviation and a master of science degree. In the last five years, Vaughn has raised more than $20 million in federal and state grants to support the transformation as well as qualified for a $26 million renovation of the main campus building. Jennifer Walden Weprin Director of Marketing Kupferberg Center for the Arts/the Louis Armstrong House Museum Jennifer Walden Weprin is a marketing guru. Competing for market share during her tenure at Liberty Cable, she helped break up the cable monopoly in NYC. Her marketing talents combined with her passion for arts and culture and her boundless energy have created successful audience development and marketing and promotional campaigns across multi platforms. Her work with Queens Theater, the Great Neck Arts Center and currently with The Kupferberg Center for the Arts and the Louis Armstrong House Museum have strengthened these organizations through increased institutional visibility, larger patron bases and strategic partnerships. She’s been known to throw a few good parties too. Originally a Jersey Girl, she met and married Mark Weprin after returning from her work with World Phone in Prague, Czech Republic and proudly makes Queens her home with their three children. She is currently an executive board member of the Queens Tourism Council. She served as co-PTA president at P.S. 188 and vice president of Presidents’ Council SD26. In her spare time, she continues her ballet training, still hoping to be discovered one day.
