North Shore Towers Courier n June 2016 7 I’ve lived in Building #3 of NST for 3 years, and I’m anxious to become involved in the decisionmaking processes of the Board of Directors. Everyone talks about transparency, but significant decisions are being made, residents are informed of them after-the-fact, and much grumbling and complaining is heard in the elevators, the lobby, the pool, the restaurants; it’s time that transparency becomes a reality. The residents/shareholders are the constituents who have the right to know, and to object, and to be heard, BEFORE controversial decisions are handed down with no input from us. . Daniel P. Kremin, Ph.D. My wife and I have been residents of North Shore Towers for the past year and a half, when we moved here from East Meadow. I am a licensed Psychologist in seven states with a clinical and forensic practice in East Meadow. I received my doctorate degree with Distinction from Yeshiva University and am affiliated with Northwell and Winthrop University Hospitals where I am an attending Psychologist. In addition, I serve as an Associate Professor of Psychology at Adelphi University and as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine. Prior to this, I was an elementary school teacher, high school, high school principal, Director of Special Education, and an Assistant Superintendent of schools on Long Island. My community volunteer experience is extensive. I was on the Board of Trustees of the Temple Shalom in Westbury, was Secretary and on the Executive Board of the New York Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, was the founding President of the Forensic Division of the New York Psychological Association, and presently volunteer my services as Police Surgeon with both the Fraternal Order of Police and the New York Police PBA. Shirley Wershba My background is in Journalism. Most of my professional life was spent at the various TV network newsrooms, researching, reporting, and producing segments for such broadcasts as “60 Minutes,” CBS and ABC Morning News, and the “MacNeil/Lehrer Report.” My field covered everything from Space Shots to Politics, Education to celebrities. Always working with the—from Murrow to Cronkite, Mike Wallace, Morley Safer, Robert MacNeil and Diane Sawyer. That was THEN. THIS IS NOW! My current career is North Shore Towers, where I started by joining the House and Grounds Committee and forming the University Club (now numbering 272 members with no increase in dues). I also worked on the renovation of the movie theatre, where every seat has a perfect line of sight. Add in a year on the Country Club Committee, the Fortieth Anniversary Celebration Committee, where I wrote the narration and served as script doctor for the film produced by Morty Schwartz. Last year, I added the Special Projects/ Shareholder Relations committee to my resume, and serve as the representative for Building #2. MY GOAL, if elected, is to support and continue what’s great about NST and to strengthen communications and relationships with all shareholders. Lydia Feinberg I have been retired for seven years and living the dream at NST for three. One of the things I enjoy most about my new life here is getting to know and understand the needs of our diverse community. During my career as an educator I have served on chaired committees, mostly involved with community outreach programs. My active involvement in the UFT has always included volunteering and as a member of the Retired Teachers Chapter I am sharing updates with my neighbors. I am an advocate for social and political issues regarding our senior population. Presently, I am on the Tennis Board. Given my experience as an associate in an interior design firm, I joined the House and Grounds Committee last year. Although I appreciate all that the Board has done, there is still much more we can do to meet the needs of our neighbors. Maintaining and strengthening the sense of community here, and treating the residents with dignity and respect, are issues I deeply care about. Having lived in apartment buildings most of my life, I understand what this lifestyle offers. That said, I know I can make a difference to the residents of NST, our home. Stanley J. Goldsmith, M.D. Approximately 3 years ago, I stepped down as Director of Nuclear Medicine at NY-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center and reduced my role to 3 days a week to allow time to “smell the flowers.” My late wife and I were born in Brooklyn, attended James Madison High School and married young, had 4 children and eventually 8 grandchildren. Moving to North Shore Towers in 2009 started a new chapter in our lives. Background: Columbia College, BA: Supported self as cafeteria worker and switch board operator. Fred Chernow It’s been my pleasure to serve as chairman of the Screening Committee for two years where I instituted changes to make the process smoother and more efficient. I’ve been a member of House and Grounds and Chairman of the GAP Committee. These varied responsibilities have given me a broad overview of our Board functions and needs. Our committee members are our future Board members and we must give them more of a say in current matters. I have moderated the 92 St Y programs that have attracted full houses making it necessary to hold two sessions one at 4:30 p.m. and another at 7:30 p.m. The Short Film Festival at North Shore Towers is now in its third year. I initiated that endeavor with Marilyn Chris and Lee Wallace as directors. Each month I write a column for the NST Times and Courier featuring one of our residents. These profiles have contributed to developing a more harmonious, friendlier community. I’m a charter member of the Men’s Club and was a featured speaker at two of their meetings.
