NOTE: If you have any questions or believe you may be a victim of a scam, call Officer John McCoy (105th Precinct) at 718-776-9207 BY STEPHEN VRATTOS On Thursday evening, May 12, General Manager Glen Kotowski introduced Chris Stahly as the new Director of Security of North Shore Towers to a standing-roomonly crowd, which gathered in Towers on the Green. Among those in attendance were residents, Board Members, Greenthal Management personnel and featured guests from the local 105 Police Precinct and Summit Security Services, Inc., the firm which provides security for North Shore Towers. According to Kotowski, the search “was taken very seriously with numerous interviews,” before Stahly was ultimately chosen. To say Stahly is qualified would be a gross understatement. In his more than 25 years with the NYPD, he’s worked at some of the city’s busiest and most prominent precincts, including the 1st as Lieutenant Commander, presiding over the New York Stock Exchange, Tribeca and SoHo; and 19th as Commander, keeping an eye on Midtown Manhattan, as well Photo by Stephen Vrattos as serving as a Commander on a unit similar to that dramatized on TV’s “Law & Order: SVU.” He’s worked in many areas, from domestic and sexual abuse to violent crime and robbery to internal affairs investigation—even serving as a hostage negotiator. Beyond the training Stahly received simply by being a member of the NYPD, which is known throughout the world as employing the most rigorous, one might say Draconian, standards in training its officers, Stahly’s had training in such other aspects as homicide investigation and counterterrorism. Upon his retirement, he headed security for the prestigious 42nd Street branch of the New York Public Library, protecting the priceless literary ephemera and artifacts in the building’s basement archives and the famous stone lions, who guard the entrance, from the millions of visitors the iconic Big Apple site receives every year. “I’m really excited to be a part of North Shore Towers to start a new phase in my career,” Stahly said.
