The nursing school is a new, important
chapter for this family-founded institution
launched in 1916 and accredited
by the Middle States Commission
on Higher
Education. With
the average age
of the student
body being
27, the program
continues
the
Col lege’s
history of
academi c
off erings that
introduce students
to a specific
profession. The
College’s year-round
calendar with semesters in
the fall (September-December), winter
(January-April) and spring (May - August)
allows students to complete one
and a half years of academics in one full
calendar year.
“Career focused is a great way to describe
the essence of Plaza versus liberal arts
or a research institution,” Callahan
said of the school’s focus on pathways
to professions. “Our programs are in line
with the mission of getting students jobs.
That’s what we were founded on.”
Nurses can be employed at a wide range
in positions in hospitals, such as emergency,
maternity, general medical
surgical, and many other fields. They
also can find jobs at nursing homes,
skilled rehabilitation centers, agencies,
home healthcare, hospice and
other sectors.
The nursing school’s simulation center
features low- and high-fidelity
simulators made by
Gaumard, including
advanced adult and
pediatric patient
manne q u i n s
as well as a
birthing simulator.
“Each lab
has a unique
p u r p o s e , ”
Laterza said.
“And they’re all
designed to optimize
the learning
experience of the
students with a safe yet
realistic clinical environment.”
The college also offers access to a
500-parking-spot garage for faculty
and students, walking access to the
E and F express trains at the Long
Island Rail Road Kew Gardens-Union
Turnpike station, and buses.
Plaza College is currently accepting
applications for the second cohort,
which begins September 2022. Information
