JFK Airport STOPS
THE BLEEDING
Employee survival training
The administration at JFK Airport
offered its first class to Stop the
Bleed Bleeding, Control Basic (BCon).
This initiative is a hands-on
seminar on how to control bleeding
in the event of an emergency. Given
the threat of possible airport terror
incident resulting in injury, this
training can prevent fatalities in
situations when professional assistance
is not readily available.
This is part of the airports continuing
concern for its stakeholders
and those who may be called
upon at a moment’s notice without
any professional medical training
but an understanding of how to provide
a tourniquet, gauze pad or hemostatic
agent. It was developed to
increase survival from an active
shooter, improvised explosive device
and mass casualty events.
This training is not intended to
replace calling 911 nor to be used
instead of contacting PAPD, but it
is an interim approach to minimize
more injury.
