JFK Air Cargo Assn. Monthly Meeting
12 AIRPORT VOICE, JULY 2019
Southwest Cargo guest speaking
The monthly JFK Air Cargo Association
(JFKACA) held it monthly
meeting with yet another interesting
industry speaker, Steve Langhart
of Southwest. and his regional man
Seth Keffas.
Both were guests of the JFKACA
luncheon with Langhart giving
a presentation into the history of
Southwest and its strength in cargo.
He discussed the reliance on the Boeing
Max which has been grounded
by safety concerns, but this has not
stopped the rest of the Boeing centric
fleet at Southwest from flying without
issues. He praised the concept of
“keeping it simple’ as espoused by
the fonder of Southwest Herb Kelleher
Langhart said that the efficiency
of Southwest is due to the tail-to-tail
procedures which reduced loading
time. He also mentioned the growth
potential for Southwest which would
include pharma, and fresh seafood
all of which work with his cargo
since their turnaround time is fast
for perishables. Having 80 cargo locations
network-wide, and with most
operated directly by Southwest and
the rest operated by third-party vendors
gives Southwest a real local advantage.
According to Langhart, it was apparent
that there is a new opportunity
with a lot of cargo at JFK that
cannot be moved economically and
efficiently under current trucking.
So, Southwest has created a new drop
station at JFK which will expedite
cargo to LGA.
Southwest has partnered with
a warehouse at the JFK area where
good will be consolidated there and
then shipped by Southwest’s partner
to LaGuardia for cargo shipment.
In addition newly implemented
shipping options making Southwest
an even better cargo partner include:
