Man gets 24 years for
stabbing wife 300 times
A Flushing man who admitted to stabbing
his ex-wife over 300 times was sentenced
to serve more than two decades
in prison, prosecutors announced on
Monday, April 30.
Naser Alzein, 55, pleaded guilty in
March to fi rst-degree manslaughter
before Queens Supreme Court. He was
sentenced to 24 years in prison on April
27.
According to charges, Josefina
Mendoza, 68, was stabbed more than
300 times between 7 and 11:45 p.m. on
Nov. 8, 2014. Mendoza had more than
200 wounds to her face alone.
Alzein reportedly called 911 stating
that he found Mendoza in the apartment
already dead. However, the charges say
that Alzein had a cut on his hand and
was seen on video surveillance pacing
outside the apartment building before
going back inside to call the police.
“Th is was one of the most violent
murder scenes one could imagine. Th e
victim had a knife plunged into her
body more than 300 times — many of
the wounds to the woman’s face,” said
District Attorney Richard A. Brown.
“Th e defendant called 911 and claimed
he found the victim dead in the apartment,
but evidence showed he brutally
killed her and then tried to cover it
up. To punish him for this criminal act
an to protect society, the defendant will
likely spend the rest of his life incarcerated.”
