She stands with her father, Nirmal, art director at The Queens Courier, after the graduation ceremony on June 24. Emily, a member of the National Junior Honor Society, is unsure where she will be attending high school but said she wants to study genetic engineering in college. AWARD State Sen. Toby Ann Stavisky awarded Sharon Yeung the Leonard P. Stavisky Award for Academic Excellence at today’s graduation at P.S. 242, the Leonard P. Stavisky School. The award is given every year to a graduate of P.S. 242 who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement as determined by the faculty and administration. The award and school are named after Senator Stavisky’s late husband, Leonard P. Stavisky, who served in the state Assembly and the state Senate. PS46Q The Alley Pond school graduated 104 on June 20 and Queens Borough President Melinda Katz gave the graduation speech. Edison Park was awarded the Irwin Altman Award, Terry Qu was awarded the Principals Award. Lucy Wang was awarded the A.P. Award, and Ryan Jun won the Mother’s Day essay contest. The Briarwood Organization, run by Riso, built a medical office space on property bought from the school and in turn built them a new playground on the staging area of the construction site. It took about a year to build and Haselbach said she was overjoyed with the result. Council member Peter Koo (left) and state Sen.
