Grass was mowed, trees manicured, and benches painted making for a picture perfect setting. e annual Independence Day Celebration draws thousands of people to the Astoria Park waterfront each year. is year’s event will feature a performance by the Queens Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 PM followed by a magni cent array of reworks by Grucci. George Stamatiades, president of Central Astoria stated, “ e Parks Department in Queens under the direction of Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski does a superb job in collaborating with Central Astoria each year on this great community event and all our summer events; Astoria Park is a jewel thanks to the e orts of the hard working men and women of the Parks Department here in Astoria Park.” Central Astoria also hosts a Carnival in the park June 26 -29, the Waterfront Concert Series, ursdays at 7:30PM starting July 10th and the Movies on the Waterfront Series on Monday evenings starting July 28th.
