He has solved mysteries about his family and his wife’s family and has helped friends connect with long-lost cousins. He’s a published author of several articles on researching one’s roots. SATURDAY, MAY 10 There will be bike-riding lesson for kids at the 108th Street Hockey Rink in Rockaway Beach from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The classes teach a safe, easy, effective method to learn to ride. “Balance first” teaches kids the basics: balancing, starting, stopping and steering. KKissena Park Civic Association (KPCA) is organizing an art competition under Kissena Park’s canopy of trees and plants. The competition is divided into three age groups: under 12, 12 to 18, and 18 and above. The time allocation for creating art work is an hour and half. The topic will be given on the day of the event. SUNDAY, MAY 11 Get a free tree at a MillionTreesNYC tree giveaway event hosted by GreenStar Hub and the New York Restoration Project. The giveaway will be held in Forest Hills at 108th and Jewel avenues from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Trees should be planted on residential and commercial properties where they can be wellmaintained and watered. TUESDAY, MAY 13 The 11th Annual Taste of Bayside will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Castle, Fort Totten Park, home of the Bayside Historical Society. WEDNESDAY, MAY 14 The LIC Arts Open will run from May 14 through 18 in over 40 prominent locations across LIC, with five new venues, including the Falchi Building and 46-10 Center Blvd., a glass tower on LIC’s developing waterfront, which will host four apartments transformed into pop-up galleries. For the main event, Open Studios (May 17 and 18), more than 160 artists will open their studio doors to offer visitors a glimpse into the seldom-seen world of the artist at work. Festivalgoers can also expect 24 art exhibitions, some extending past May 18, a roster of innovative dance, theater and music performances, and a host of children’s activities.
