14 The Queens Courier • MAY 8, 2014 FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.queenscourier.com ADVERTORIAL Local Food and Recycling at Queens Greenmarkets Textile Recycling Now a Weekly Farmers Market Feature in Sunnyside and Forest Hills Queens residents now have the opportunity to recycle clothing every week while shopping for farm fresh products at two area Greenmarkets operated by the nonprofit GrowNYC.  The Forest Hills and Sunnyside Greenmarkets have accepted food scraps such as vegetable trimmings, stale bread and coffee grounds since 2013 and 2010, respectively, thanks to BIG!Compost, who collects and composts the material locally.  Textile recycling will be an added feature this year, in partnership with Wearable Collections, a NYC-based clothing recycling company that has provided textile recycling drop-offs at a growing number of Greenmarkets since 2008.   Tax-deductible donations such as clothing, shoes, bedding and towels will be accepted and sorted for reuse or sent to recycling markets that turn materials into wiping rags, fiber for car door panels and insulation. GrowNYC has collected more than 2.5 million pounds of textiles and 2.7 million pounds of food scraps at dozens of Greenmarket collection sites throughout the city.  Together, food scraps and textiles comprise 23% of NYC’s waste, making efforts like these critical to reducing the big apple’s environmental footprint.  The Forest Hills Greenmarket takes place Sundays, year round, on the South Side of Queens Boulevard at 70th Avenue.  Textiles are accepted from 8:30am-1pm.  Food scraps are collected from 10am-12pm. Sunnyside Greenmarket, on Skillman Ave btwn 42 & 43 Streets, runs through December 20 and accepts textiles from 9am-1pm; food scraps are collected from 10am-1pm.  Visit www.grownyc.org or call 212- 788-7964.  ProgressiveCare HOW CAN I OBTAIN THE CASH I NEED TO MAINTAIN AND GROW MY BUSINESS?
