The restaurant offers a variety of traditional Peruvian dishes for affordable prices. Piura presents a cozy atmosphere, where diners can relax and listen to the sweet sounds of Spanish love songs. Scenic paintings and Peruvian art pieces decorate the walls. The restaurant opened in November 2015 by owner Gasper Carrallo, who also owns the popular Mexican spot Cinco de Mayo. Cinco de Mayo has stood strong in Bayside for the past 10 years, but Carrallo reflects on its beginning stages. “It was hard to survive, but we made it. During that time, we saw restaurants opening and closing. Thanks to the people, we’re still in business,” Carrallo said.             Piura serves a hearty combination of seafood, chicken and steak, to name a few. For starters, try the Choros a la Chalaca ($8). This seafood delight includes steamed mussels, stuffed with chopped red onion, corn, tomato, lime juice and cilantro. The vegetables are fresh and crunchy, while the lime juice leaves a tangy surprise on your tongue. Diners who need extra seafood satisfaction can order the Ceviche Mixto ($18). The dish contains octopus, shrimp and calamari, marinated in lime juice, red onion and cilantro. The shrimp, calamari and octopus are very plump and juicy. The lime juice and red onion are great enhancements that add a tart taste. For chicken lovers, enjoy the Pollo a la Braza (half $12; whole $18). The rotisserie chicken is accompanied by salad, French fries or buttery rice and beans. The meat is delicious, especially when Peru’s Aji green sauce is applied. The sauce mixes mayonnaise, mustard, jalapeños and other ingredients. A Piura favorite is the Filete Cusqueno ($18). This savory meal entails grilled shell steak with mushroom sauce and salad. The sauce is rich and creamy, while the steak is tender. Pair this with a refreshing Pisco Sour ($9), blended with mango, passion fruit and egg white for a foamy finish. If you have room for sugary desserts and more, pop up at Piura for a Peruvian experience. Tickets Start at $15! Tickets Start at $15! Restrictions, exclusions and additional charges may apply.
