While academic achievement is a fundamental goal of our school, it is not the only one. We follow the NYS Common Core curriculum and standards, but we also provide our children with memorable life experiences. Education is about the formation of persons, not merely providing them with information. We begin each morning by praying as a school community. Classes host monthly school liturgies at First Friday masses, as well as, other prayer services in which the students are active participants. They can be readers, leaders of song, altar servers, or present the gifts at the altar. Special prayer services include our Thanksgiving service, Advent, Christmas pageant, Stations of the Cross in shadows, the Feast of the Epiphany and Lent. Our students come to us from a diverse range of cultures, beliefs and abilities. Those cultures and beliefs are respected and abilities supported or enriched. Our goal is to provide our students with the skills needed to succeed in a highly literate society, and then, as responsible faith-filled members of that society, to use those skills to create communities that actively promote social justice. Children of other faiths have the opportunity to share their beliefs as well. Thanks to the generosity of our parish, school families, and parishioners, we are able to broadcast our morning announcements throughout the school! We have our very own closed circuit TV system—NDTV! Our videoconferencing room has also been very busy! Students in all grades enjoy the experience of interacting with people all over the world. We are proud to provide our students the opportunity to work with iPads and other technological tools. All classrooms, kindergarten to eight, are equipped with integrated SmartBoards. Our days are filled with many exciting activities and learning events. Learning does not just take place in one classroom. Our children enjoy a variety of “special” classes and events throughout the school year and we would love for you to see us “in action.” Please feel free to call the school to schedule a tour and for more information. 718 326-1585 Email: Ststansnews@gmail.com  Half and Full Day Nursery Programs  Free Full Day Pre Kindergarten For All  Second Language Program  Computer Instruction  Physical Education Program  Music Program  Art Program  Remedial Reading and Math  8th Grade Integrated Algebra Enrichment  Student Leadership  Library Skills Program  Active Parent Participation  Before and After School Programs  Afterschool Activities  C.Y.O. Well, St. Stanislaus Kostka School in the family-friendly neighborhood of Maspeth, Queens, can meet these needs and much more. Serving the parishes of St. Stan’s, Holy Cross and Transfiguration, St. Stan’s elementary program is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition to the New York State Common Core curriculum, Principal Barbara DeMaio and her staff introduce a variety of learning experiences to their students, including computer technology, art, music, Spanish, physical education/gym and library. The school features a newly renovated technology center, as well as Wi-Fi access throughout the school and Smart Boards in all classrooms. “I’m proud to be part of a school that has served the community of Maspeth for 85 years,” says Principal DeMaio. “Our students are our top priority, and every effort is made to meet the varying abilities of the students through differentiated instruction.” To further encourage its students to excel, St. Stan’s offers an Algebra Common Core Enrichment Program to 8th grade students, and an emphasis is placed on building leadership skills and strengthening self-confidence through its Student Leadership Organization. All students are encouraged to participate in after-school activities, including the school band, drama club, scouting, CYO sports, cheerleading and the yearly Talent Show. These schoolrelated and after-school activities help students to identify their talents and abilities and develop to their fullest potential. To provide additional assistance for working parents, St. Stan’s has an Early Drop-Off Program at 7a.m., and for students in Nursery through Grade 6, the school offers an After-School Program from 3-6p.m. daily. For a small fee, these programs provide a safe haven for students to play and complete homework assignments under the supervision of St. Stan’s School staff. Martial Arts and Zumba classes are also included as part of the After-School Program. St. Stan’s has educational opportunities for younger children as well. “Pre-K for All” is a free program that is available to all students born in 2012. Open from 8a.m. to 2:20p.m., it provides instruction by licensed teachers who earned Masters in Early Childhood Education. Classroom activities include beginner science experiments, hands-on math experiences, creative art projects, and language/literacy enrichment activities. Children also have access to an indoor gym and a newly built outdoor on-site playground with state-of-the-art equipment. As part of the program, students also receive a nourishing breakfast and a hot lunch. In addition to “Pre-K for All,” St. Stan’s has reasonably priced half-day (8:10-11:10a.m.) and full-day (8:10a.m.-2:50p.m.) Nursery Programs for all children born in 2013 that are potty-trained. “I love the school,” says Rose Grodensky, the grandparent of two St. Stan’s students in grades 4 and 6. “Ms. DeMaio is a dedicated principal, and the teachers and office staff are great. St. Stan’s offers a small, family environment; a real home away from home for my grandchildren.” Free remedial math and language programs are available for students who need additional academic support and guidance. And, to ensure the physical safety and well-being of its students, St. Stan’s has a full-time Department of Health nurse on-staff. As a testament to St. Stan’s academic excellence, the 2015 graduating class collectively earned more than $144,500 in Catholic High School scholarships. Regis, Xavier, Archbishop Molloy, St. Francis Prep, The Mary Louis Academy, Dominican Academy, Monsignor Mc- Clancy, LaGuardia, Brooklyn Latin, Martin Luther High School and Maspeth High School are among the schools that students go on to attend.
