10 The Queens Courier • catholic school • january 28, 2016 for breaking news visit www.qns.com St. Agnes student receives National Merit commendation BY ERICA SIUDZINSKI Senior Christina Louder, student at St. Agnes Academic High School in College Point, earned the recognition of National Merit Commended Student in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program. The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships with approximately 1.5 million high school student entrants each year. Ms. Louder is among commended students in the top 5 percent of the 1.5 million students who took the PSAT last October. Letters of Commendation recognize outstanding academic CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK  promise. Although commended students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some become candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses as a result of this recognition. Students who receive this distinction “have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” remarked a spokesperson for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
