34 The QUEE NS Courier • BUZZ • JANUARY 28, 2016 for breaking news visit www.qns.com Kay’s dreams made of gold By Brianna Ellis Everything that glitters may not be gold, but jeweler Tom Kay found a way to make his dreams sparkle. When Kay emigrated from Iran to the United States 35 years ago, he traveled with a vision of entrepreneurship. This idea followed him into the classroom, where he studied business at Central State University in Texas. After college, Kay embraced the business world. “I worked as a partner for a jewelry store and decided to open up my own,” he recalls. “It was always a dream.” The jeweler transformed his passion to action in 2006, when he established Rose Discount Jewelry on Springfield Boulevard. Today, Kay has more than 15 years of jewelry expertise and remarks that he can design almost everything. Kay enjoys jewelry and takes great pride in customer satisfaction. “I like jewelry because it makes me happy to see people happy,” he says. “It makes people happy when they buy jewelry, especially the ladies.” In terms of favorites, Kay adds, “Gold is forever: it stays in your family BUSINESS in the NEWS for generations to generations. Yellow gold is my favorite, but white gold also.” What distinguishes Kay from his competition? “I stand out because number one, I try to give the customer the best price ever,” he says. “Better than anybody else. If anybody finds prices lower than I do, I’d be happy to match it. On the other hand, everything we sell is authentic. It is real gold, not gold plated. We don’t play games.” Kay assures consumers that his 14-karat gold to 18-karat gold pieces are sold at extremely reasonable prices. Kay’s jewelry runs the gamut from $50 and up to thousands. His services, such as a watch battery replacement, start at $5. In addition to his low costs, the jeweler does all types of repairs. The store offers gold, white gold, chains, necklaces, rings, watches and more. Kay purchases gold from customers and welcomes exchanges or trades. Layaway payments are available as well. The jeweler is optimistic about his future in business and strives to be the best. “I would like to be the best jeweler in this community because I operate very honestly and have a history of being a dependable business,” he says. “I stick to my promises and I stand behind whatever I sell, pricewise and quality-wise.” His compassion for customers and competitive prices are a true formula for success.
