JOAN CURCIO s GARCIA Director of Inpatient Services Elmhurst Hospital Center Dr. Joan Curcio was born in Elmhurst Queens at St. John’s Hospital, which has since closed. In 2001, Curcio returned home for post-graduate training in the Mount Sinai Internal Medicine Program at Elmhurst Hospital. After her training, Curcio stayed on for another year as Executive Chief Resident. Curcio next accepted an offer to remain as a Hospitalist. This was a newly created position which gave her tremendous opportunity to develop the role. In 2006 Curcio was named Hospitalist Division Chief. She expanded the role of Clinician Educators to include performance improvement with a focus on patient fl ow and satisfaction. It became rapidly apparent that improvement would be limited unless she could coordinate with other departments and disciplines. Curcio found each group had similar goals being worked on in parallel format. Curcio was promoted in 2007 to Director of Inpatient Services for Internal Medicine. This new role provided a platform from which she could coordinate with groups across the hospital to improve performance and quality. In 2009 Curcio was honored by HHC as Elmhurst’s Doctor of the Year. In 2013 she was recognized by the American College of Physician’s as one of the County’s Top 10 Hospitalists. Curcio considers herself very fortunate to provide health care in the Queens come. H community where she was born, and she looks forward to continuing to expand and improve health care in the years to Controller, Greater Jamaica Development Corporation Jessica has always been driven. She attributes that drive to her upbringing and personal need to excel in whatever challenges come her way. Working her way through school, she attended Renaissance Charter High and went on to graduate from St. Johns University with a BS in Accounting & Finance. Her proven work ethic during a college internship turned into a full time position as a Junior Accountant at Wild, Maney & Camera, an accounting fi rm based in Long Island. After two years Jessica moved on to Buchbinder Tunick & Company as their Senior Auditor. With the arrival of her son, she felt the need to work closer to home and took a position with Grassi & Company, a large Jericho based auditing fi rm, with the challenge of many more clients and diversity of work. While at Grassi, Jessica realized that many of her clients were in the notfor profi t sector enriching their respective communities. This prompted her to take a position as Senior Staff Accountant at Greater Jamaica Development Corporation, a community based, not-for-profi t, with a focus on promoting growth and development in Downtown Jamaica. Within a year, Jessica was promoted to her current position as Controller. Jessica says, “I love the diversity and versatility of the organization.
