Walk the Course for Cancer, Sunday,
September 30, the perfect prelude
to October’s Cancer Awareness
Month. This was the 4th annual fall
classic, which gathers residents and
friends to “take a walk” around the
golf greenery, while raising money
for the American Cancer Society.
Dozens convened in the Country
Club reception area prior to the 3
p.m. start, many swathed in pink.
Stalwart gym instructor Cari
Heiman once again took the helm
for a fun, energetic warm-up, before
leading her charges onto the course,
followed close behind by Board
Member Phyllis Goldstein, the
original architect of the event and
continual Chair since its inception
in 2105. Participants were free to
move at their own pace, whether
that be a brisk heart-pumping mph
or easy stroll; none were discouraged
or prodded to move any faster
than they could. Many contributors
merely donated to the event, some
of those participated by providing
moral support at the kick-off, sharing
in the camaraderie at the finish
as well.
Two routes were available to
facilitate the varying degrees of
walkers. Both descended the hill
from the terrace exit from VIP
Room reception onto the course,
skirting the access road and towers
along the 16th fairway. Proceeding
around the green by the Grand
Central Parkway access road back
toward the heart of the course, the
more able and intrepid took the
low road down to the right of the
gazebo, while others took the high
road to the quaint structure’s left.
All returned to the Country Club
reception area, where they were
greeted with a beautifully decorated
refreshment table, brimming with
cupcakes, coffee and tea.
Everyone agreed, they had a wonderful
time and the weather was
perfect. The glow they shared came
not from schvitzing, but rather from
the pride in knowing they’d come
together for a worthy cause.
Congratulations NST!
Walk the Course for Cancer
Chair Phyllis Goldstein and
Babes & Guys Chair Judy Lev
This year’s Walk the Course
for Cancer marked the
end of the year’s Babes
& Guys charity event, which included
the signature tournament
in July, Tree of Life outside the
Country Club entrance, Shop ’Til
You Drop, Tennis Association
Potluck Dinner and 1st Annual
Herb Greenberg Memorial.
Wrapping up her second year
as Chairperson, Judy Lev has
achieved tremendous success,
breaking—nay, shattering—the
record for funds collected in her
first year (2017) with more than
$50,000, which landed North
Shore Towers in the Top Ten
fundraisers among area clubs.
Then, she oversaw the breaking
of the record again this year,
grossing more than $70,000,
catapulting NST to the Number
6 spot. “It happened because the
North Shore Towers community
came together…WE DID IT!”
