It Don’t Mean a Thing,
If It Ain’t Got That Swing
Tennis Association wraps up its season with lovely affair

Mary Anne Langone On October 4, the North
Shore Towers Tennis
Association held their
annual end-of-season dinner and
dance party at Filomina’s Restaurant
in Franklin Square. More than
40 members and guests attended
the spirited affair, which featured
Spinmeister DJ Lynn and a sumptuous
dinner. Attendees also tried
their hand at a game of Name That
Tune and no tennis finale would be
complete without erstwhile wordsmith
Carol Meyerson reciting her
traditional custom poem, reminiscing
over the season’s highlights and
players. Not to brag, but according to
Marilyn Salzman, quoting the owner
of the venerable eatery, “It was the
best party we’ve ever hosted!”
Longtime member Salzman
also joined the ranks of the Tennis
Association Board, which also
elected Lydia Feinberg, Annelies
Karp, Jerry Mantell, David Paris,
Harris Pinsky and Steve Rosenberg
to its roster for the 2019 season.
President and individual offices
were still to be determined as of
this writing at a Board Meeting
scheduled for October 28.
“Although our numbers may be
small, we’re a dedicated group…
It’s incredible!” Salzman enthused
about the club, citing the nearly
full tennis courts every evening
during the season and the turnout
to such popular events as
the monthly Tennis & Pizza
parties, Potluck Charity Dinner
for the American Cancer Society
and yearly dinner/theater trip.
This season, members attended
“Thoroughly Modern Millie” at the
Broadhollow Theater in Elmont,
enjoying a delicious dinner
thereafter at King Umberto’s.
Of course, there are tournaments,
always exciting matches,
including special contests
designed by the delightfully devious
mind of Tennis Pro Rick Bates,
who keeps play fun, though still
challenging. Kudos to Bates for
another wonderful season. And
no season would be possible without
the tireless help of Country
Club Manager Mary Anne and her
Assistant Jessica, who were also
instrumental in organizing and
decorating the party at Filomina’s. 2019
