24 North Shore Towers Courier n November 2015 What’s so Funny about Peace, Love and Understanding? By Stephen Vrattos “I’m doing it because I love the golf and I love the people,” revealed Stan Yoel about completing his first season as the Men’s Golf Association’s President. The Association is wrapping up the 2015 season and celebrated with its annual end-of-season dinner at Towers on the Green, Thursday, October 15, where the champions of each division received their official trophies. “The new restaurant did a great job; we have no complaints,” Yoel said of the affair. “A hundred thirty-five or so people coming together with something in common… It’s a wonderful feeling of community.” Yoel dabbled in the sport before moving to North Shore Towers 14 years ago, when he decided to actually learn how to play. He was trained by Country Club Golf Pro and Director, Bob Guido. “I felt in retirement it would be a really great thing… I love it!” If you’re getting the idea that Yoel is a big believer in bringing people together, you’d be right. During his first season, he’s worked tirelessly to foment a more positive perception of the golf club with the residents of North Shore Towers, as well as working toward more interactivity with the Ladies Association and the differing factions in his own group. “What I’m trying to do is get people to understand that golf at the Towers is a benefit, not a detriment,” he said. As such, he’s working with the Board to enable residents more time to walk on the course. “We want to share this,” he explained of his swinging peers. “We don’t want to keep it all to ourselves.” Fortunately, Yoel’s found a kindred spirit in the Ladies Golf camp with new President Teresa Oropallo. “This year, the men and women are a lot closer than in the past,” Yoel said. “Our committees are working together… Teresa’s a great girl!” Yoel’s also improved the internal relations of the men’s club, organizing tournaments that mixe A Players with B Players. He encourages everyone to come down and not be intimidated or feel unworthy, as one might at a more highfalutin club “You don’t have to be a scratch player to have a good at NST. It’s not a snooty place.” “It’s a nice thing,” Yoel continued about the dinner, which is the ideal event for uniting golfers. “Everyone gets to talk and get to know one another; they can’t do that on the course.” New Men’s Golf president preaches greater harmony among other players & NST residents Photos by Julie Weissman Pro Bob Guido, First Place Winner Steve Auerbach and Tournament Director Eugene Price Men’s Golf Champion Bruce Fox Pro Bob Guido and Tournament Director Eugene Price flank Flight A winner Bruce Savid 2015 TMGA President Herb Greenberg
