UJA Luncheon honors three who give back BY RACHEL LANDAU North Shore Towers hosted the UJA Federation’s 34th Anniversary Luncheon on Sunday, October 6. Guests packed Towers on the Green for a buffet lunch and awards reception as a piano played in the background. Those assembled recognized community members Anita Kaufman, Bernie Weinstein and Eneas Arkway, recipient of the community service award. Following a greeting from Simi Zwecker and the Tobins, guests watched a poignant video on UJA’s manifold social services and projects. Arkway is a “Lion of Judah” whose passion for life, philanthropy and education garners the admiration of friends and colleagues alike, said organizers. Over the years Arkway has devoted her time, her fullest effort and her resources to diverse causes. She is an educator, a member of the Women’s Interboro philanthropy cabinet, and an active participant in the projects of the UJA and other beneficiary agencies. Weinstein is a Korean War veteran, a strong family man and a constant presence at North Shore Towers social events. Weinstein contributes every year to UJA operations and acknowledges the great amount of knowledge and experience he has gained from his participation in UJA. Kaufman was recognized for her achievements as a member of the Jewish community. She is known for her “open heart and open door,” said organizers. Her Shabbat dinners are “legendary,” as is her “kavannah,” her passion and commitment to the Jewish faith, heritage and people. Like the other honorees she has devoted herself to UJA causes. The UJA’s mission is to foster vibrant Jewish communities, to aid those within the community who are less fortunate and to encourage Jewish learning. 18 North Shore Towers Courier n November 2013
