24 North Shore Towers Courier n October 2015 HEALTH EXPO RETURNS Fun and informative bi-annual event returns to NST BY FELICE HANNAH MEDICARE CORNER ACCOUNTABLE CARE ORGANIZATION (ACO) Doctors, hospitals and other health care providers participating in the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) have decided to work together to provide better and more coordinated health care benefits for beneficiaries enrolled in original Medicare. How does ACO work? If your doctor, hospital or health care provider decides to participate in an ACO, your health care will be coordinated. Your ACO health care providers will share information about your health issues and treatment with each other. This will provide a more comprehensive picture of your health. Medicare will share certain health care information about your care with your ACO health care providers. Is ACO a managed care, hmo or insurance company? No. ACO is not a managed care, HMO or an insurance company. You still have the right to see any doctor, health care provider or hospital who accepts Medicare even if they are not enrolled in an ACO. How does an ACO benefit the patient? Prescriptions will be shared with other ACO, thus lessening the possibility of duplication of your prescriptions and contraindications and less medical forms to complete that ask for duplicate information. Duplication of medical tests becomes unnecessary, because results of tests are shared with your other a ACO co providers. As things change somethings remain the same You will continue to be responsible for your part B deductible and other cost sharing. Your Medicare benefits remain the same The next Medicare Corner will have information about the many changes in Medicare for 2016.
