On August 10, an enthusiastic
audience of Men’s
Club members and guests
welcomed Richard Linden, a
Financial Advisor, who conducted
a “Financial Advisor Retirement
Seminar.” Linden has 35 years’
experience in the financial industry,
held a seat on the American
Stock Exchange for 18 years and
is currently affiliated with CPS
Financial Services. He discussed
“handling stock market volatility,”
investment strategies, market and
economic questions of vital interest
to retirees and those nearing
retirement age. The timing of this
program was perfect, with the Dow
having just dropped 200 points.

The NST Men’s Club is a vital, active organization,
with something for everyone, whatever your
interests.
Linden welcomed questions and
we left better able to understand
the business news in the morning
papers. As usual, there was active
discussion over coffee and cake.
The Current Events Group, led
by Lee Hiller, met on August 14,
as usual on the second Monday
of the month, at 10:30 a.m. in the
Coleridge Lounge. Some of the
topics discussed were:
1. The U. S. Department of Justice,
Civil Rights Division, report, which
found the Ferguson, Missouri Police
Department routinely violated the
Civil Rights of African-Americans.
2. The Trump Administration’s
new twist on immigration.
3. The Question: Who poses the
greatest threat to the US (and the
world) in the short run and in the
long run? ISIS/Islamic Terrorism,
North Korea, China, Russia or the
dis-function in Washington?
The next meeting of the Current
Events Group, will be on September
11 at 10:30 a.m.
Our summer has been about
more than business and politics.
The focus of the Men’s Club is
having fun. On July 18, the Club
had lunch at Ayhan’s Shish Kebab
in Great Neck. The food was good,
reasonably priced and the company
even better! Our visit was part of
a Men’s Club program of monthly
luncheons at restaurants in nearby
communities.
On July 27, Men’s Club
Members enjoyed an excellent
dinner at Crabtree’s in Floral
Park. Interesting facts: Crabtree’s is
named after “Miss Crabtree,” who
was a teacher in the “Our Gang”
comedies. Another interesting
point of information is that Donald
J. Trump played himself as Waldo’s
Dad in the 1994 movie adaptation
of “The Little Rascal’s.” You can
see it on YouTube.
Members and guests continue
to enthusiastically enjoy BINGO,
once monthly on Sunday evenings,
an activity organized by
Ralph Edwards and Irwin Chanes.
Between 60 and 150 people play
at each session. BINGO cards
cost $5.00 or 3 can be purchased
for $10.00. BINGO is solely for
the fun of participants and is
non-profit. You can join us for
BINGO on September 24 in the
Large Card Room.
Ralph Edwards also chairs the
Book Group. On July 31, the group
discussed the “Rules of Civility” by
Amor Towles. The next meeting
will be held on September 25. The
Book Group meets in the Coleridge
Lounge at 10:30 a.m.
