NST joins popular charity event to raise money for cancer research

and Stephen Vrattos When it came to her second
 year heading the
 annual Babes & Guys
 charity event, which raises money
 for American Cancer Society, Committee
Chair Judy Lev had big shoes
to fill—her own! Her overseeing the
 2017 affair led to a record-breaking
 result, placing North Shore Towers
in the top ten Country Clubs, among
those which hold their own annual
 Babes event.
 This year, where most would
 be merely content with matching
 a previous notable outcome or
 perhaps inching above the mark,
Lev set her bar much higher, as if
she were not just beating her own
record, but that of an arch-rival.
But if the prospect of facing such
 a challenge phased the self-made
 career businesswoman, one would
be hard-pressed to notice. Any reaction
 to the Brobdingnagian goal she
set for herself is met with the same
 regard one gives when receiving
another catalog in the mail. Anyone
familiar with Lev knows this is not
false bravado, but rather a stoic
 determination and fierce competitive
 streak, which she’s made a
 trademark of her career.
“We already have 118 card players,
34 people who just signed up
 2018
for the luncheon, 25 men golfers
and 65 women; the Tree of Life
August outside the Country Club entrance
 has raised $2,400 and continues
  to grow; plus, we’ve received

more than $17, 000 in donations
alone,” Lev said five days before
the Thursday, July 12, event. “We’re
 entering with more than $40,000,
not including the raffles and 50/50
draw. That’s ahead of where we
were at this time last year.”
 Those latter two components
 held during the luncheon garnered
$5,000 in 2017, and Lev says this
year’s prizes are even better. Hard
 to believe, when one considers
 2017’s booty included bottles of
wine, fine jewelry, spa visits and
gift certificates to some of the area’s
 best restaurants, among other
 impressive donations from Arcade
 businesses and area merchants.
