players on the North Shore
Towers golf course have
gotten smaller, there’s a good
chance it’s not your eye sight.
This season, NST has joined
a multitude of other clubs and
courses across the nation, participating
in the PGA Junior
Golf League.
Under the tutelage of a professional,
young aspiring players
between the ages of 5–14,
are provided the opportunity to
learn about the sport with others
of their age, as well as gain
important interactive social
skills, all while have fun in a safe
environment outdoors away from
video screens. Coupled in teams,
kids play a match against PGA
Junior Golf League participants
from other clubs each week, as
well as partake in 1–2 weekly
practices. Known as the Towers
Titans, 16 youngsters of varying
abilities make up the NST team,
which was a perfect 2–0 through
mid-May.
“The team aspect helps kids,
especially ones who are more shy,
less social, open up,” NST Golf
Pro Bob Guido, who oversees
the young charges of The Towers
Country Club, said. “I’ve seen
very quiet kids their first week,
laughing and having fun, getting
along and working together as a
team, with the other kids by the
second.
“It’s an honor being an ambassador
for a program like the PGA
Junior League, which allows PGA
golf pros to create such a fun environment
for kids. I, personally,
was lucky to grow up playing golf
surrounded by great mentors and
I love the PGA Junior League. It
gives kids the opportunity and
future generations of players the
same opportunities.
“I’ve been doing this for 35
years now, and this could be the
best experience I’ve ever had.”
