Due to a conflict with the
Fire Safety Program, our
meeting scheduled for May
had to be cancelled. At our next
meeting on June 14th our featured
speaker will be Terri Rabinowitz,
a counselor and psychotherapist.
Her topic: Questions and Answers
in Dealing with Emotions, Moods
and Relationship Issues. Terrie is
a highly successful therapist and
private practitioner who deals with
individuals, family and groups involving
relationship issues. She has
been on radio, TV and has lectured
as a motivational speaker. She has
an MA in Social Work from Adelphi
University and more than 25 years’
experience. Your questions will be
submitted anonymously on an index
card and privacy will be respected.
For our July meeting, we would
like to take a much different tack,
one might say “audience participation.”
We call it “The North
Shore Towers Men’s Club Newly
Wed Game 40, 50, or 60 years later.”
We’re looking for good sports
who don’t mind being the object of
jokes or having their private lives
somewhat invaded, all in good fun,
of course! For instance, one question
might be, “Who initiated your
first kiss and where was it?” There
will be monetary prizes and a place
for the winners in the North Shore
Towers Hall of Fame.
May’s Current Events Group
meeting was like a wide ranging
Political Science Seminar. Once
more our members demonstrated
their vast and astounding knowledge
and ability to interpret what is
going on in the world. The meeting
marked the return of our Chairman,
Lee Hiller, from snow-birding.
About 25 of us were there to greet
him, which is a record turnout.
Sadly, Ralph Edwards did not
attend, as he is in a rehabilitation
facility recuperating from a serious
illness. We wish him all the best.
Because of this surge in interest
in current events by our membership,
we have taken two steps. We’ll
now meet in the large room in the
Coleridge Lounge and we’ll do so
twice a week. In June, these meetings
will occur on the 11th and on
the 25th. These changes will be on
a temporary basis to see how they
work out.
Once again, as in previous meetings,
our membership demonstrated
their depth of knowledge and interest.
It was like a college seminar.
Much time was spent discussing the
fact that Israel is 70-years-old this
month and celebrating by moving
its Embassy to Jerusalem. Much of
the credit for this move is going to
our president. Of equal weight on
the international scene is the situation
with Iran. How are they going
to react? How will the Russians
react? China? Our allies are not
happy with us. Someone pointed
out that this situation could develop
into another Vietnam and we’ve
had enough of “Nation Building.”
In relief, the last few moments were
devoted to such domestic issues as
commentary about Senator John
McCain, solar panels in California
and gambling in New Jersey.
We have quite a few interesting
activities planned in June. A 7-card
poker tournament on Tuesday,
June 12, at 6 p.m. in the large card
room; a members-only lunch at
Café Cardini on Tuesday, June 19; a
visit to the Queens Museum of New
York on Thursday, June 21, with
lunch at noon and a docent tour
at 1 p.m.; and a member/guest dinner
at the Mediterranean Seafood
and Grill in Great Neck. Also
planned is a bus trip to Atlantic
City or Mohegan Sun (TBD) on
Tuesday, June 26. Of course, there
is always breakfast at Buffy’s every
Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at
9.00 a.m.—always well attended.
And let’s not forget BINGO on the
last Sunday in the month at 7:30
p.m. in the large cardroom at the
lower level. All are welcome. Bring
a friend or few.
