The candidates include three current Board members seeking re-election – Board President Mort Gitter, Fred Chernow and Mario Camiciano – two former Board members – Phyllis Goldstein and Claire Levitan – the wife of a former member – Pat Tulchin, whose late husband Ted served in 2006 – and two first-timers – Howard Teitelbaum and Marilyn Salzman. One current board member, Herb Cooper, is not seeking re-election. A “Meet the Candidates” night— where candidates will speak and take questions from residents --is set for June 5 in the movie theater at 7:30 pm. (One candidate, Claire Levitan, will be out of the country that night and will not be able attend.) The Board functions as the governing body of the corporation that owns and operates North Shore Towers. All legal shareholders – residents who own their own apartments – have a right to vote. The elections are administered by the American Arbitration Assn., the nonfor profit organization that specializes in elections for unions, corporate stockholders and other commercial groups. Ballots are to be mailed to shareholder early this month. They may be returned by mail to the AAA or dropped in secure ballot boxes located in the lobbies of each building. Votes are tallied and announced June 20, the night of the annual shareholders meeting. Candidates are listed here in the order they will appear on the ballot. 1 Morton L. Gitter Incumbent, Board President Years in NST: 26 Occupation: Bankruptcy and Corporate Finance Attorney We have a significant number of new ideas coming from board members right now. And if we’re going to go forward with them, it can’t be business as usual at NST. This is a developing community and I believe I can be a catalyst and a coordinator to keep this body on course – to make this place better. Because I am the senior member of the board, I can continue to advise my fellow board members on what’s gone on in the past and mentor them with the expectation that dynamic and progressive leadership will continue in the future. I believe we need a close working relationship between the board and the management of NST and to give the board more input on how things are accomplished here. From a financial standpoint, I’ve had a significant say in how our finances have been conducted in the last few years. The results speak for themselves and I hope everyone agrees that we’ve had a marvelous run. 2 Howard Teitelbaum New Candidate Years in NST: 11 Occupation: Coop/Condo Management Company Owner After serving as president of the Hamlet Condominium for 10 years, I formed “Community Property Management” where I managed and consulted with more than 50 Co-ops and Condos over the next 21 years. I wish to share my experience and expertise with this wonderful community I have been pleased to call home for 11 years. I love living here with my wife, Paula Held. NST is a wonderful blend of people of various ages, backgrounds and interests, and has the amenities to serve everyone. If elected, I will bring my experience and talent to NST, its Board and its residents. To be sure, I will always vote on issues as an independent voice of reason and logic. My only allegiance will be towards the facts, and to not be swayed by the wishes of others. As a business man, I always trust my own judgment. Towards this goal, I seek your support and vote in this important election. Together, we can make North Shore Towers an even better place than it already is. 3 Marilyn Salzman New Candidate Years in NST: 4 Occupation: Attorney I stand for honesty, transparency, enthusiasm, and willingness to make improvements. We must create greater transparency between the board and the shareholders through more open meetings and dialogue on important issues within our community. We must continue our efforts for diversification. If elected, I will have access to all the facts and then be able to make informed decisions as to what is best for our community. My experience and credentials, as an attorney, distinguish me from the other candidates. When on the board, I will apply my experience to
