6 North Shore Towers Courier n March 2016 “Action” Heroes WELCOME HOME Former District 23 Council Member and friend of NST, Mark Weprin, returns By Felice Hanah North Shore Towers Political Action Committee Chairperson, Felice Hannah, hosted a Round Table Meeting with Mark Weprin, Deputy Secretary of Legislative Affairs for Governor Cuomo and Former City Councilmember for District 23, on Friday, February 5, 2016. More than 100 residents attended the event, along with many Elected Officials and Community Representatives. The Audience listened with great interest as Weprin discussed Governor Cuomo’s State of the State Budget Proposal. The Governor’s Agenda “Built To Lead” is an aggressive investment in improving mass transportation, infrastructure and education. Highlights of Governor Cuomo’s Agenda, as presented by Mark Weprin, include: • Modernization of mass transportation • Transformation of the MTA, Penn Station and Jacob Javits Center • Improving the Thruway system • Revitalizing Upstate and NYC airports • Reconstruction and modernization of LaGuardia Airport, • A $15 dollar minimum wage for all workers • Investment in housing for the Homeless • Expansion of Pre-Kindergarten to include threeyear olds These plans will be implemented over a period of years. Residents asked questions and expressed their concerns regarding the Governor’s Budget Proposal and questioned funding of this aggressive budget. A resident expressed concern regarding the Governor’s support of Charter Schools. North Shore Towers Board President, Mort Gitter, thanked Weprin for his comprehensive presentation. The meeting ended with rousing applauds for OUR Mark Weprin.
