FORE!open for the season Golf course, pro shop NST COURIIER/Photos courtesy Towers Country Club North Shore Towers Courier n March 2013 3 BY MAGGIE HAYES Editor’s note: Bob Guido, North Shore Towers head golf professional, will be adding monthly updates about upcoming golf events and news for club members. It’s time to dust off those golf clubs – March 1 marked the reopening of both the golf course and the pro shop for the season. “Having a facility like this, not many people can have what we have,” said Bob Guido, the Towers head golf professional. “It’s unique. It’s a way of life.” As per usual, the course will be open six days a week, the seventh day reserved for golf outings. Guido said that the outings in particular are a great way for Towers residents and outside guests to get out there and enjoy the beautiful course. Guido as well credits his tremendous staff for much of the course’s success. “Knowledge, service and dedication – that’s what we do,” he said. Brian Gerowski, the assistant golf professional, has been with the Towers for a decade, and Jackie Brown for 30 years. Together with Eddie Gaulrapp and Michelle Zucker, the staff is always available, “sun up to sun down.” “You can’t be afraid of long hours,” laughed Guido. “Everybody is a true asset. We never want to be an inconvenience for our members.” During those long hours, the golf staff does everything from selling merchandise, helping with tournaments and interacting with over 300 members that come by on any given day. Guido said they try and adapt the “old school” ways of teaching and playing, by creating a relaxed environment not solely focused on competition. This way, everyone can enjoy the game. “It’s a great environment. People are very appreciative of what you do for them,” he said. “It’s a great relationship, give and take.” Taking a look away from the 18-hole golf course, the pro shop additionally offers a variety of the latest items, from clothing to shoes to equipment. Each year, Guido and his wife purchase from an annual vendor show in Florida to ensure that they offer the most updated merchandise for their members. So be the first on the course and enjoy the accommodating staff, they’re all eager for the 2013 season to begin and be the best yet.
