18 North Shore Towers Courier n March 2013 Central maintenance office Like a fix-it family BY MAGGIE HAYES The central maintenance office is a hub for problem-solving at North Shore Towers – whatever you need fixed, the staff can make it happen. “It’s just trying to give the best customer service we can give,” said Jeanette Cutrone, the newest member of the office staff. “People are people – I just treat them the way I would like to be treated.” Cutrone works alongside Duke Saganich and Ingrid Evans, and together, the three run a smooth operation, handling residents’ requests and concerns and delegating the Towers maintenance staff accordingly. During the summer, the Towers busiest season, Saganich, who has been at the Towers for 35 years, said that the staff takes roughly 400 calls per day, as well as helping walk-ins. Currently, call volume is not as high, but the crew still takes hundreds of calls every day. “There’s always something going on,” he said. When residents approach the staff with a maintenance problem, they must then decide who is best to fix it in a timely manner. They also contact outside contractors for particular projects. Aside from helping residents, Saganich, Evans and Cutrone also must help each other. The three have formed a good relationship and help each other whenever necessary. Evans, who has been a member of central maintenance for over three decades, said she has enjoyed the camaraderie throughout the years amongst the staff. “Everyone really makes you feel like you’re a part of the family,” echoed Cutrone. Left to Right: Ingrid Evans, Duke Saganich and Jeanette Cutrone work together in the central maintenance office to ensure the Towers are always in its best shape. It’s that camaraderie that creates the warm, welcome environment that residents are a part of every day. Everybody has Photo by Maggie Hayes the opportunity to work together, and the staff can fulfill their mission – for all problems to be solved as quickly as possible. Premier Care of Great Neck All the care without the wait BY ANGY ALTAMIRANO When patients can’t reach their primary physician or the emergency waiting room is too packed, Premier Care of Great Neck provides the same services, but with a shorter waiting period. “We are able to dedicate our time to the individual patients,” said Dr. Adhi Sharma, one of the four physicians on site. “Everyone is busy these days to carve out time for waiting. We can eliminate the wait without reducing the quality of the care.” Open 365 days, Premier Care of Great Neck is staffed by a board of certified emergency physicians providing services like those that are found in emergency rooms or at patients’ primary physicians. Patients can be treated for wound care, any illnesses with fever, be tested for strep throat or the flu, receive necessary intravenous fluids and antibiotics, and many other services. Physicians evaluate all patients that come to the site, quickly transferring life-threatening situations to hospitals to receive immediate care. The method of organizing the care for the patients allows the waiting time to be around only 15 minutes, with the longest time spent filling out paper work, said Dr. Sharma. With five exam rooms on site, patients spend between 30 minutes to an hour visiting the physicians. “We don’t keep them for two days; we quickly help them so they can get back to their normal day,” said Dr. Sharma. There is an X-Ray machine and laboratory on site and services can be completed quickly because, unlike an ordinary emergency room that functions with a hospital, the physicians at Premier Care of Great Neck have the time to dedicate to patients one by one. “It’s a really good model and the patients love it,” said Dr. Sharma. Premier Care of Great Neck is located at 415 Northern Boulevard and is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and, Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Holiday hours vary. All major insurance plans and Medicare are accepted. For more information and to verify insurance, call 516-829-2273. Photo Courtesy of Premier Care of Great Neck
