VOXX PAYS IT FORWARD TO EMPLOYEES, COMMUNITY
Voxx International
Corporation (formerly
Audiovox)
does a lot to make people’s lives — and
possibly, your life — better. The Hauppauge
based manufacturer and supplier
of automotive and consumer electronics,
founded in 1960, makes audio and accessories
sold under 35 brand names such as
Klipsch, RCA, Acoustic Research and Audiovox.
It also has an expanding portfolio
of iris-based authentication solutions.
While Voxx provides electronics for
cars and consumers that you may use,
it’s been focusing on employees as well.
President and CEO Pat Lavelle in a letter
to employees talked about their “can-do
attitude that has defined this company.”
In the company’s mission statement,
Founder John J. Shalam states that the
company aims to provide “unparalleled
customer service” and “sales support”
as well as a welcoming workplace.
“To encourage employee growth and
participation by using our practice
of open communications,” Shalam’s
statement says. “Producing maximum
returns for our shareholders and our
company's growth and providing a safe
and satisfying work environment for
our employees.”
Voxx has been working to make the
company not just successful, but a good
place to work. It has a new, high-tech
Hauppauge headquarters lined with
artwork, energy-efficient lighting and
air conditioning, and state-of-the-art
electronics and communications.
“We offer gym memberships, health fairs,
first-aid and CPR training, flu shots, mammography,
and blood pressure screenings
to all employees,” Robert Rieder,
employee programs manager, said. “We
have charging stations for electric vehicles
and a new mothers nursing room.”
Voxx is active in the community,
participating in the American Heart
Association’s Heart Walk, New York
Blood Center blood drives, St. Vincent
de Paul Society clothing drives, and
the Marcum Workplace Challenge runwalk
for charity.
“We volunteer at the Long Island Cares
Harry Chapin Food Bank and have
outreach relationships with United Cerebral
Palsy, United Way, Make-a-Wish,
American Red Cross, and Disabled
American Veterans,” Rieder added.
The company collects and donates
school supplies for the Brentwood
School District; toys for Pronto of Long
Island, the Mercy First Agency in Syosset
and St. Christopher-Ottilie Family
Services in Dix Hills; and pet supplies
for the Brookhaven Animal Shelter.
During the pandemic, employees
were provided with Voxx masks, hand
sanitizer, wipes and rubber gloves.
The company used an iris-scanning
thermometer to take the temperature
of everyone entering the facility. “We
also purchased propane heaters so
that employees could eat outdoors
year-round at our picnic area, while
our lunchroom capacity was limited,”
Rieder said.
