PS 14 art project recognized nation’s best
Clean Energy truck-fueling station comes to Hunts Point

One leading provider of
natural gas and transportation
fuel has started pumping
in Hunts Point.
Clean Energy Fuels Corporation
joined NYC Department
of Transportation Bronx
Borough Commissioner Nivardo
Lopez and others to cut
the proverbial ribbon on the
company’s newest clean energy
fueling station in the borough
on Wednesday, July 10.
This is the fi rst station
in New York City that exclusively
offers renewable natural
gas for medium and heavyduty
vehicle fl eets, according
to Clean Energy Fuels.
Essentially, it’s the fi rst
kind of solely clean fuel stop
for 18-wheelers and other massive
trucks in the fi ve boroughs.
It’s going to be utilized by
Bronx truck fl eets that include
neighboring Baldor Specialty
Foods, Manhattan Beer Distributors
and U.S. Concrete,
which were all displayed at
the facility’s grand opening.
“A few blocks from here is
Hunts Point Market, the largest
food distribution center of

its kind in the world, resulting
in approximately 15,000 truck
trips per day,” said Clean Energy’s
vice president of sales
Chad Lindholm.
He continued to explain
about how this long-envisioned
station will serve fl eets
operating in Hunts Point
with a lower-cost alternative
to diesel fuel that can lead
to substantial reductions in
truck-related pollution and
greenhouse gas emissions.
The clean fuel is derived
from capturing biogenic methane
emitted from decomposing
organic materials at dairies,

elementary school is getting
some creative recognition for
one of the nation’s best public
art projects.
Senator John D. Calandra
elementary school was recognized
for displaying one of
America’s 50 best public art
projects in 2018 in its lobby
on Monday, July 15.
The award winning mosaic
is titled ‘The Tree Inside
Me,’ which artist Sandy Litchfi
eld derived from a 1914
Rainer Maria Rilke poem.
It depicts trees, leaves,
birds, butterfl ies and fl ower
in vibrant harmony with
various buildings and structures.
“I hope the children, faculty
and staff can enjoy it
for years to come,” Litchfi eld
said.
Following the building’s
theme of the seasons,
the artwork moves upward
from cool winter tones to
the warmer colors of spring,
summer and fall, drawing attention
to the school as a year
