KZA Realty Group helped improve
the quality of life in the Tremont section
by bringing a full-service family health
center to the new Tremont Renaissance
building at 1910 Webster Avenue.
Kathy Zamechansky, owner and
president of KZA Realty Group, represented
Mastermind, Ltd. in the 15-year
lease deal with the New York City Health
and Hospitals Corporation. Michael Dubin
and Hector Rodriguez at Savitt Partners,
LLC, represented the city.
The 15-year lease is valued at
$14,146,767.86 and covers 21,643
square feet on the ground fl oor of one
the most exciting new developments in
the Bronx, a borough that is undergoing
rapid transformation as the borough’s
real estate boom continues.
The Health and Hospitals Corp.
plans to open a comprehensive family
health center to provide pediatric, primary,
urgent and elder care. Amenities
at the pace-setting Tremont Renaissance,
a mixed-income residential development
consisting of 256 apartments
and a parking garage, include a fi tness
and yoga studio, a children’s play area,
an internet lounge and rooftop terraces.
The location is a half-block from the
Metro-North Tremont station (less than
eight miles from Grand Central Terminal),
two subway lines and several bus
routes.

hour a week with a homebound senior
who spends too much time alone. Program
sponsored by the NYC Department
for the Aging and coordinated by the organization
Neighborhood SHOPP.
Here are some requirements: 18 and
over; commit to being a Friendly Visitor
for a minimum of six months; comfortable
establishing a relationship with an
older adult; honest, mature, motivated,
patient; ability to maintain confi dentiality;
willing and able to contact the program
coordinator should problems arise;
participate in an in-person interview;
and undergo pass a background check
and provide references; and one hour
per week, for a period of six months.
For volunteers, friendly visiting offers
the opportunity to cultivate a lasting
friendship, to learn from a senior’s
life experiences, and to benefi t from the
personal satisfaction derived from community
service.
For the senior, friendly visiting provides
a sense of connection to the outside
world, something to look forward
to, and a sense of contributing to society
through sharing their wisdom, knowledge,
talents and stories with you.
Friendly visiting leads to the creation
of meaningful relationships between
older adults and volunteers, promoting
inter-generational understanding.

The Pelham Art Center, 155 Fifth

develop foundational art techniques in

Youth classes in the Pelham Art
Center Media Lab allow students to gain
tech skills and artistic range. Spring
2020 classes Create with Smartphones,
Minecraft Modding, Digital Doodles,
Young Photographers, Coding with
Scratch, Advanced Coding with Scratch,
3D Modeling, and Stop Motion Animation
will introduce a variety of software
and creative digital techniques.
Pelham Art Center camps offer
fun, educational art experiences during
school breaks! Sign up for one of the following
week-long camps from Monday,
April 6 to Friday, April 10. Spring Break
Camp is for ages 3 to 7; Hand-building
and Wheel Throwing is for ages 8 to 11;
and YouTuber is for ages 9 to 12.
Those seeking more studio can utilize
Pelham Art Center’s open studio
sessions. Adults can drop into the Monday
(10 a.m. to noon) or Friday (3:30 to
5p.m.) open studio for $15. Members
who are enrolled in another spring class
may come for free. Adult Open Studios
provide no instruction or supplies, but
are an opportunity to work independently
and share the space with other
inspired people! For studio time with
guidance and feedback, try Art Open
Studio on Wednesdays 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The Joint Apprenticeship and
Training Committee (JATC) for Ironworkers,
Local Union 40 and 361,
will conduct a recruitment from April
2, through May 21, for 100 Ironworker
(outside) apprentices, The New York
State Department of Labor announced
today.Applications must be obtained in
person at JATC for Ironworkers, Local
Union 40 and 361, 35-23 36th Street,
Astoria, NY, from noon to 5:30 p.m. every

Thursday, excluding legal holidays,
during the recruitment period. Applications
are also available on Fridays, April
24 and May t from 10 a.m. to noon.
A $25 testing fee and a valid form of
identifi cation will be required at the time
of pick-up (Money Order only - payable
to Ironworkers LU 40 and 361). You may
request that this fee be waived. Fee
waivers will be approved upon showing
verifi able proof of fi nancial need. Failure
to appear for a test will result in disqualifi
cation and forfeiture of the fi ling fee.
The committee requires that applicants:
Must be at least 18 years old.
Proof will be required after selection
and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship;
must have a high school diploma
or equivalent. Proof will be required at
the time of application; must take and
pass the Ironworkers’ written aptitude
test; must be able to follow written directions;
must submit to a drug test, at
the expense of the sponsor, after selection
and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship;
must be physically able to
perform the work of an Ironworker (Outside)
as determined by: climbing up a
35-foot column in less than 40 seconds
and safely climbing back down; climbing
a ladder 20 feet up to a 5.5-inch-wide
beam and walking on top of that beam
for 20 feet, turning around and returning
to the ladder. Climbing four feet down
the ladder onto a platform and pulling up
a bucket that weighs 75 pounds. Lowering
the bucket back to the ground, pulling
it up, and lowering it to the ground
again. Climbing back down the ladder.
This must be completed in less
than three and a half minutes; raising
and lowering 2,000 pounds of steel 40
inches into the air with a chain fall in less
than two minutes and 15 seconds; and
carrying a 45-pound tool up and down a
staircase, three times, in less than one
minute and 30 seconds.

In keeping with a 12th year tradition
that began in 2009, the Bronx’ urban
tradition, The Taino Awards announces
its 2020 honorees. The Taino
Awards rewards distinguished achievement
in the current revival of Native and
Indigenous People of the Caribbean, especially
Puerto Rico. Each award winner
is recognized for their work and for their
achievements in the Taino community
as a whole.
Held Sunday April 12, 4 p.m. at
the Bronx Museum of the Arts on the
Grand Concourse, the 12th Annual Taino
Awards sets apart those individuals who
have served their community and have
continued the tradition of restoring and
preserving Taino culture. Since the resurgence
and revival in the 1980s, the
Taino Revival Movement has sought to
recapture an Indigenous culture that
was once thought lost due to colonization.
