NYU’S DENTISTRY RESEARCHERS VISIT P.S. 140
New York University’s College Dentistry researchers recently went to P.S. 140 to provide
elementary school students with dental appointments to prevent cavities as part of NYU
College Dentistry’s fi ve-year study funded through a $13.3 million award by the Patient-
Centered Outcomes Research Institute. The prevalence of cavities in the Bronx is nearly
twice the national average, according to recent statistics.

RECOGNIZES MLK DAY
The Bronx Women’s Bar Association, Inc., which is a a chapter of the Women’s Bar Association
of the State of New York, held a history presentation recognizing Martin Luther King Day on
Tuesday, January 21 at the Bronx Hall of Justice. The speaker at the event was Dr. Louis J.
Braun, a civil rights activist who served as Dr. Martin Luther King’s local coordinator for the
Selma to Montgomery March and national chairman for the campus division of Americans
for Democratic Action.

SALAMANCA JOINS ELECTEDS FOR PR RELIEF DRIVE
Councilman Rafael Salamanca joined local elected offi cials and community partners on
Southern Boulevard and Aldus Street for a humanitarian relief drive in support of Puerto
Rico. Hundreds of volunteers and residents fl ooded the streets collecting water, pampers,
canned goods, fi rst aid kids and toiletries to send to impacted areas of the island following
the earthquakes.

WILLIAMSBRIDGE CENTER CHINESE NEW YEAR
On Friday, January 24, Williamsbridge Center staff and residents celebrated Chinese New
Year 2020, the Year of the Rat. Staff gave out authentic red Chinese envelopes called Hangbao,
which symbolize good luck, happiness, money and fortunes for the new year.
