The inmates are taking
over the institution.
The only difference between
Beirut and New
York are the police, so
what do we do? We allow
them to be embarrassed,
ask them to enforce laws
politicians make, then
criticize them for doing
their job.
Sanitation workers
make an average fi rst
year salary of approximately
$47,000 a year,
fi refi ghters earn approximately
$43,000 their fi rst
year, teachers starting
salary is approximately
$58,000, a police offi cer’s
salary is approximately
$45,000 per year.
After fi ve years a Sanitation
worker earns approximately
$88,616, fi refi
ghter approximately
$100,000, teachers approximately
$67,000,
police offi cers approximately
$85,000. When
was the last time you saw
an anti-sanitation, fi re or
teacher demonstration?
When was the last time
a sanitation worker, fi refi
ghter or teacher was
told to stand down and
not do their job?
Who has the policeman’s
back? Not our
Congresswoman who
BRONX TIMES REPORTER, D 28 ECEMBER 6-12, 2019 BTR
feels turnstile jumpers
deserve a free ride,
not the judges who allow
repeat offenders to
leave court before the
police offi cers have fi nished
their paperwork?
Not the Police Commissioner
whose job depends
on his doing the
will of the mayor, not
the mayor who seems
to think the best way
to bring down crime is
to decriminalize it and
have the police issue
summonses and then
give out free tickets to
sporting events to entice
the criminals to
appear in court. What
happens to the citizens
of this once great city?
Those that can afford it,
will move to suburbia
or out of the state altogether,
leaving the least
fortunate in our society
to fend for themselves.
All these city agencies
are given tools to
help them preform their
jobs with the maximum
effectiveness except the
police, the tools they
need to fi ght crime are
taken away (Stop and
Frisk for example). Why
do so many police offi cers
switch from the NYPD to
the NYFD? They joined
the department to protect
and serve and they
feel they can better serve
as a fi refi ghter. All our
city agencies preform a
vital service for us: Sanitation
workers keep our
city clean, fi refi ghters go
into burning buildings
and save lives and property,
teachers educate
our children.
The police offi cers
are different, they put
themselves in harm’s
way every time they put
on the uniform. They
are not social workers
or educators their primary
duty is to enforce
the law. They give out
summonses, make arrests
and sometime have
a split second to decide
whether to use deadly
force or not. Some one
needs to have their back.
When was the last
time we thanked a police
offi cer for doing
his/her job after we received
a ticket, or after
a loved one has been arrested
for committing
a crime? But that’s the
job we pay them for and
the oath they swore to
uphold ‘To Protect and
Serve’? For doing their
job they’re met with disrespect
and animosity.
Where are our council
members and why are
they not standing up for
the police? Why are they
not making laws to protect
our law-abiding citizens
instead of the law
breakers? Where is our
judiciary whose revolving
door justice, keeps
putting criminals back
on the streets?
The badge should be
respected by those who
wear it and those who
are served by it. ANTIFA
has more rights
than our police. Can you
imagine offi cers spitting
on protesters? They
would be brought up on
charges immediately
and it would-be frontpage
news for a week,
yet when the opposite
is done, offi cers are told
to stand down. We owe
each one of them a debt
of gratitude.
Great job done by the
Kiwanis Club with the
Veterans Thanksgiving.
The food was outstanding
and a good time had
by all, thanks to all that
brought a toy to donate,
it will bring a smile to
a child on Christmas
morning.
Post Christmas

Tots program beginning
