Last month, Senator Alessandra Biaggi was invited to participate
in the 2019 Food Tank Summit, which provided those
in attendance with an opportunity to have an open discussion
about building and expanding food policies throughout
the fi ve boroughs.

PHIPPS NAMED ’2019
BANK OF AMERICA
NEIGHBORHOOD
BUILDERS’ AWARDEE
Non-profi t organization Phipps Neighborhoods was recently
named a ‘2019 Bank of America Neighborhood Builders’
awardee for New York City, selected for their work helping
children and families in the south Bronx overcome poverty.
As a reward, Phipps Neighborhoods received a $200,000
grant. The Classical Theatre of Harlem was named the other
awardee for 2019 and also received $200,000 from BOA.

LINCOLN HOSPITAL PUTS ON THEATER PRESENTATION
On Tuesday, October 29, NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln hosted a theatrical presentation of Theater of War Productions’
‘The King Lear Project’ in the Lincoln Hospital auditorium. Featured actors included David Zayas, Marjolaine Goldsmith,
Daphne Rubin-Vega, Linda Powell, Chinaza Uche and Bryan Doerries. A discussion addressing Bronx communities’ challenges
was held after the performance and involved more than 100 members of the community, from senior centers,
caregivers and clinicians from Lincoln.

TURKEY DONATION
EVENT HELD BY DIAZ,
SALAMANCA
On Friday, November 22, Councilman Ruben Diaz, Sr.
held a turkey donation event for residents at Melrose
Senior Center in preparation for Thanksgiving. Diaz
was accompanied by Councilman Rafael Salamanca,
who also passed out turkeys to the senior residents.
