46 | BOROMAG.COM | SEPTEMBER 2015 THE ARTS The Mind’s Eye Elinore Schnurr is one of Long Island City’s most prolific artists. Even a casual perusal of her library of work offers a blend of images often familiar, always vibrant, and somewhat haunting. A contemporary representational painter, her works have been displayed in countless galleries across the country, and commissioned for just as many private and corporate collections. While her early work offers keen observations of the human form and how it conveys emotion and energy, her more recent work—while still insightfully depicting the human form—has turned its focus inward, offering a bold commentary on images actually seen juxtaposed with those in our mind’s eye, as well as the confusion and beauty resulting when those worlds are muddled within the framework of everyday life. From suited men entering the World Trade Center, to friends unwinding at a café, please enjoy this miniature journey into the mind of one of our favorite local artists.
