BRADLEY HAWKS editor-in-chief Dear Western Queens, I have always been a firm believer that anyone who allows her/himself to feel even momentarily bored or slighted for unique activities is either loony or simply lazy. We live in the most electric city on the planet, and though rent may not be getting any cheaper, we are certainly always rich in the variety around us. I spent an afternoon at the Diego Salazar Art Gallery with the immensely talented Elinore Schnurr, and get to share some of her brilliance with you in this issue. Our fundraising guru reveals how you can even host your own event for a cause of your choice. One of our local favorite lifestyle shops opened a third location in Jackson Heights, so of course we had to stop by for a mini spree. The culinary scene remains ever-changing, with Peruvian newcomer Nazca. Mamu Thai celebrates one year of success as a brick-and-mortar restaurant. While favorites from the LIC Flea head to duke it out at the Vendy Awards this month, the Kaufman Astoria Studios are welcoming a first-ever Night Market each Saturday in September. See something new. Eat something new. Create something new. As always, please share with us your own personal anecdotes, and send me any tips, comments, news or events to bhawks@ boromag.com. We look forward to sharing many more stories with you in the months ahead. Now, get out there and think outside the box.
