The Astoria Flea and Food was a tremendous success, bringing together vendors and patrons in the spacious back lot of the iconic Kaufman Astoria Studios— the only back lot in New York City. This month, the team behind the LIC Flea will reunite once again to return to Astoria its first night market—all in the same space that has played home to the filming of such blockbuster hits as Orange is the New Black, Nurse Jackie, and Sesame Street. For three Saturdays in July (9th, 16th, and 23rd) the city will descend upon Astoria from 7 p.m. to midnight to wander nearly 80 stands to sample a diverse array of international cuisine and shop through stalls of vintage clothing, works of local artists, children’s products, furniture, jewelry, and gifts of every size and shape. In addition, a bar will serve wine and beer from local Queens breweries. “I’m thrilled to partner with Kaufman Astoria Studios and open their outdoor movie lot to the general public. It will be a fun and family-friendly destination to enjoy the remaining evenings of summer,” said Joshua Schneps, Co-Publisher of QNS and president of LIC Flea & Food. “Our first-class flea vendors offer the opportunity to discover unique items to buy and our food vendors serve up delicious eats you can’t find anywhere else.” Visitors will be able to enter the lot from 36th Street either from 34th Avenue or through the grand entrance on 35th Avenue featuring a 40-foot-high steel gate, designed by David Rockwell and the Rockwell Group. Fans of the LIC Flea & Food will recognize many of their weekend favorites located at 5-25 46th Avenue, along with several newcomers. For the feature story in this issue, BORO spent some quality time with each of the vendors at the LIC Flea to show readers a glimpse of the many of the flavors and merchandise. Vendors who are interested in selling at the market can visit www.LICFlea.com or email info@licflea.com to apply. For updates visit Facebook.com/LICFlea or follow @LICFlea on Twitter and Instagram.
