Alexa Strautmanis and Chris Supino have built
their perfect version of home on 28th Street
in Astoria filled with meaningful art, plants and
hidden trinkets that highlight the couple’s playful
lifestyle. But they didn’t get here by following
trends or "KonMari-ing" their space; they let
their unique interests lead the way.
Both Strautmanis and Supino grew up in Manhattan:
SoHo and the Upper West Side respectively,

but they have lived in Queens for three years.
“There’s a sense of community in Astoria,” said
Strautmanis, an artist who works in development at
Cambridge in America. “We know all of our neighbors.
We know the businesses. We just love it here.”
High ceilings were also a priority for the couple
when they were apartment hunting, and after
walking into their living room, I understand why. A
massive, colorful painting is the focal point of the
