that my mom kept while she was living in
Astoria by herself,” she said. “These were the
love letters my dad sent to my mom while
they were in a long-distance relationship for
seven years.”
At the time, her dad was in the Philippines
trying to be an electrical engineer and her
mom was working as a nurse in New York
City. They were unsure whether they’d end
up together.
“Last Thanksgiving, I was being really
