US FLAG ARTWORK DONATED TO T1
JFK Airport Terminal
One received a special gift
from artist Miljan Suknovic,
just in time for the Memorial
Day weekend. The artist donated
a large 7x12 foot canvas
of a impressionistic American
Flag.
Steve Rowland, Director
of Operations T1,
along with other terminal
stakeholders,thanked
Suknovic for his generous
donation and said “
Mr. Suknovic’s rendition
of the American Flag is
appropriate for this Memorial
Day remembrance
and it is representative of
the experience into Terminal
One and the United
States.” Rowland quoted
Woodrow Wilson’s words,“
The things that the flag
stands for were created by
the experience of a great
people. Everything it
stands for was written by
their lives. The flag is the
embodiment,not of sentiment,
but of history.”
According to this Serbian
artist, he was touched
by acceptance as an immigrant
into this country having
received his citizenship
recently. The words of John
F. Kennedy resonated in his
mind, “ Ask not what your
country can do for you, ask
what you can do for your
country.” Suknovic decided
to so something for his new
country and his favorite city,
New York. He continued by
saying “ My gift is a true expression
of my wish for the
happiness and well-being of
everyone living in and arriving
to this country and this
city. I also wish to express my
gratitude for having received
the opportunity to love and
work here.”
Currently the flag is displayed
by the escalator to
the food court for all passengers
to admire and pay
tribute to this country’s
heritage; Memorial, and
every other day.
