Arup & PANYNJ
SHARED BUSINESS DNA
Since its inception 100 years
ago this year, the Port Authority
of New York and New Jersey has
been a pioneering agency for regional
infrastructure. From the
early days of aviation with the
global debut of a paved runway
or celebrating Amelia Earhart’s
record-breaking successes to today’s
feats of minimizing their
carbon footprint to address the
challenges of our future, the Port
Authority has consistently embraced
innovation. Through periods
of growth and moments of significant
upheaval alike, the Port
Authority kept its eyes on the horizon
to blaze a trail to the future
of the region’s infrastructure and
industry.
Over the course of the century,
the Port Authority laid the
foundation for greater prosperity
in the region by linking New
York and New Jersey together
and building on their progress to
become the model agency of intermodal
travel and a paragon for
cities around the world on how
to effectively integrate regional
transportation. In tandem with
their forward-looking approach,
they have never strayed from
their keen focus on equitable support
of the wellbeing of people
first and connecting the communities
they serve.
Arup’s ethos strongly aligns
with the values of the Port Authority.
We share similar DNA
in supporting a diverse and equitable
workplace, leading the way
in sustainability, and actively
seeking innovations to meet the
future. The Port Authority is
comprised of exceptional people
delivering exceptional work for
people, and Arup has enjoyed our
meaningful, collaborative relationship
for the past 25 years.
The Port Authority has succeeded
in changing the way
transportation functions in the
Region and they continue to
tackle the greatest challenges of
our time. Looking ahead, we’re
excited to see what the next 100
years holds for the Port Authority
and our partnership. Whether
by air, land, rail, or sea; terminal,
tunnel, bridge, or port, we’re
proud to be associated with the
Port Authority across all their
endeavors.
KAAMCO May
meeting issues
Interline, wages and HTA financial impacts
The long awaited extension of the
Interline Agreement was finally announced.
President Roger Scott was
happy to share that with the new extended
5 year agreement with Airway
LLC, significant reductions for
cost-per-bag are anticipated as passenger
volume grows.
He was also happy to report that
with the help of Olga Angelinas, the
2021 Kaamco golf event is sold out
with 128 golfers next month. Some
sponsorships are still available as
well as some evening activity spots.
On the matter of the upcoming
financial burden of the Health Terminals
Act on July 1st, and the mandated
minimum wage increase for
airport workers in September, a letter
that was drafted and signed by
KAAMCO and the JFK Chamber of
Commerce was sent to the Port Authority
siting the financial hardship
under the current economic distress
and asked for consideration of delayed
implementation at this time.
VP Mark Flug was also happy to
announce that membership for 2021 is
up. However with the departure of two
Board members, there are two seats
open. Flug also encouraged member
participation since it is important
for the Board to speak on behalf of all
members especially when the redevelopment
stakeholder meetings begin
again and the financial impact of two
impending rising worker costs.
Cargo Chairman Brian Cooley reported
that there are ongoing FOD
inspections with upcoming FAA and
regular TSA inspections. Virgin
Atlantic will sponsor the June FOD
walk. Thanks were given to AGI and
WFS for helping with the FOD cleaning.
He mentioned that the Unilode
rep is missing and that there is
equipment belonging to airlines that
needs to be claimed by the Post Office
area. Otherwise this equipment
may be removed with a loss to the
owners.
Smith extended a warm welcome
to Vanna Oak who is now Station
Manager at Air France.
