 The 99s Celebrate 90th
 Anniversary
 Int’l club of women pilots
 began near JFK
 Amelia Earhart and other
 early women pilots started
 the Ninety-Nines (99s) club on
 November 2, 1929 at Curtiss
 Field, Valley Stream, Long
 Island, Of the 117 licensed
women pilots of the day, 99
 became charter members of
 this organization and took
 the name, Ninety-Nine, from
 their number of charters
 members. The membership
 was international from the
 beginning and Earhart was
 elected the fi rst President.
 The 99s is the international
 organization of women pilots
 that promotes advancement of
 aviation through education,
 scholarships, and mutual
 support while honoring
 unique women’s pilot history
and sharing passion for fl ight
 activities.
 Thousands of licensed
 women pilots from over 40
 countries comprise Life
 Members, Emeritus Members,
 Ninety-Nines and Student

 these patients are children

 can assist.
 Each year Amelia Earhart
 Memorial Scholarships
 (AEMSF) are awarded to
 qualifi ed members for fully

 Partial funding is awarded

 semesters. In addition, the
 AEMSF provides Research
 Scholarship Grants and New

 Additionally, local
 Chapters sponsor several

 programs, including
 aerospace workshops for
 teachers, airport tours for
 school children, fear-of-fl ying
 clinics for airline passengers,
 and fl ight instructor

 many years, 99s have cosponsored
 more than 75

 Members have worked with
 the National Intercollegiate
 Flying Association’s student
 fl ying competitions since
 1948 as judges, runners, and
 teachers, as well as with
 funding assistance. More
 recently, the 99s became
 sponsors for the Girl Scouts
 of America offering Aviation
 Day programs. Recently
the 99s hosted a Girl Scout
 Aviation Day at Vaughn
 College. An lastly the club
is about having fun fl ying.
Each year they have a couple
 of nationally oriented events
 when members can catch-up,
 talk experiences and compare
 their fl ying machines.
