Bayside crushes Springfi eld Gardens with blowout win on gridiron
Th e perfect Commodores of Bayside
High School made a statement on their
home turf with a 35-6 win over the
Springfield Gardens Golden Eagles on
Oct. 26.
This one was over early, as the
Commodores rattled off two touchdowns
in the first two quarters and
took a 28-0 lead into the locker room
at the half.
Quarterback Douglas Flug had a
big game for Bayside, throwing three
touchdown passes for 162 yards on
seven completions. Running back
Jordy Chen also did major damage,
rushing for 160 yards on nine carries,
two of which led him to the end zone.
The Commodores’ defense stymied
the Springfield Gardens offense all day.
Rusher Dontae Pelsey scored all of
Springfield Gardens’ points with his
third-quarter touchdown run.
The victory kept Bayside undefeated,
earning their eighth win in as many
games, and they remain on top of the
Bowl Conference. The Commodores
will close out the regular season on
Nov. 2 on the road at Jamaica High
School.
The loss dropped Springfield
Gardens to 1-7 on the season; they’ll
finish up the 2018 campaign on Nov.
4 against the Eagle Academy for Young
Men III.
