Three women were acknowledged for their extraordinary contributions to the southeast Queens community: Patricia Chin, founder of VP Records, the largest reggae label in the world; Susan Deutsch, president of Capital Initiatives, which is involved in the revitalization of Jamaica; and Philippa Karteron, founder and CEO of Galleria Noire and former executive director for the Council for Airport Opportunity. Queens Borough President Melinda Katz was among those who turned out to honor JCAL and recognize the evening’s special guests.
