17 The Greater Ridgewood Historical Society
is hosting the Annual Harvest Festival
at the Vander-Ende Onderdonk House. The festival
will feature a pumpkin patch with 500 pumpkins
for the first 500 children, a market, apple pressing for
cider, a bouncy house, face painting, crafts, games,
music by DJ Frank, an appearance from Nolick the
Wizard, self-guided tours of the Onderdonk House and
refreshments. The festival will run from noon to 5 p.m.
Adult admission is $5, admission for children ages 12
and under is free. Members also get in for free.
19 Get lost in a 3-acre corn maze at Queens
Farm Park (Little Neck Parkway between
73rd Road and 74th Avenue). Starting at 11 a.m., visitors
can find clues and solve puzzles as they try to find
their way out of the corn maze. Adult tickets are $10,
tickets for children ages four to 11 are $4. Children
ages 3 and under get in free. The last tickets will be
sold at 4:30 p.m.
TUESDAY, OCT. 9
20 Interested in jazz music history? Come
hear Ricky Riccardi speak about the life and
work of Louis Armstrong at the Queens College! Ricky
Riccardi is the director of research collections for the
Louis Armstrong House Museum and author of “What
a Wonderful World: The Magic of Louis Armstrong’s
Later Years.” Tickets can be purchased online for $20.
This event is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at 153-49 Reeves
Ave., Flushing.
21 Always wanted to learn how to knit?
The Queens Library in Briarwood is hosting
Knitting With Lilli, a beginner class for those interested
in knitting. All materials are provided, but attendees
are free to bring their own. Registration is required by
phone at 718-658-1680 or in person at the library. The
event will run from 1 to 2 p.m.
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 10
22 Queens Botanical Gardens is hosting the
NYC Compost Project from 9 a.m. to noon.
Attendees to this free event can lend a hand at the
urban farm or learn how composting works. Tasks may
include weeding, harvesting, planting activities, processing
food scraps, building a compost pile or sifting
finished compost. Volunteers must be at least 16
years old.

Garden! Learn to identify different types of birds and how the QBG provides for them on this
