Hundreds in cash stolen
from synagogue
Police are asking for the public’s help
fi nding a man wanted in connection to a
series of burglaries in Kew Gardens Hills.
It was reported to law enforcement
that three burglaries occurred inside the
Khal Degel Israel Synagogue Community
Center located at 144-02 68th Dr.
The first incident happened on
Th ursday, June 14. At 11:40 p.m. that
day, police say that an unidentifi ed
man entered the synagogue through an
unlocked front door and entered the
kitchen. Th e suspect allegedly stole $100
in cash before fl eeing through the front
door.
Th e second incident occurred a day
later on Friday, June 15, at 11 p.m. Police
said that the same man entered the
unlocked front door and went into the
kitchen. Similar to the fi rst burglary, the
suspect removed $200 and fl ed through
the front door of the synagogue.
A few months later, the suspect hit the
synagogue for the third time. On Friday,
Sept. 21, at 11 p.m., the thief allegedly
entered the establishment’s unlocked
front door, entered the kitchen and took
a mere $20 in cash before fl eeing.
Police describe the suspect as a 25- to
30-year-old Hispanic man, standing at
5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing about
150 pounds. He has a light complexion
and slim build with brown eyes and short
black hair. Police said he was last seen
wearing a black long-sleeved shirt, black
jeans and white sneakers.

Flushing
Men attempt to enter home
as fake NYPD offi cers
Real NYPD offi cers are looking for
three fake cops behind a recent attempted
home invasion in Flushing.
At around 5 p.m. on Sept. 25, law
enforcement sources reported, three
unknown men approached a residence on
Haight Street. Th e men identifi ed themselves
as police offi cers and had shields
around their necks and attempted to
enter the home.
Authorities said the suspects fl ed the
location moments later without having
entered the building. At this time it is
unknown what prompted the fake cops
to fl ee.
Th e suspects were last seen inside a
teal SUV heading southbound on Haight
Street, police sources said.
Th e 109th Precinct tweeted out images
of the suspects.

Flushing
Dead man found fl oating
off Flushing waterfront
Cops are investigating the death of a
53-year-old man whose body was found
chained and fl oating in the
Flushing River on the morning
of Tuesday, Oct. 2.
Offi cers from the 110th
Precinct responded to a 911
call made at 9:15 a.m. on
Oct. 2 regarding a body seen
fl oating in the water around
the World’s Fair Marina, off
the intersection of Northern
Boulevard and the Grand
Central Parkway.
Once police arrived to the
scene, they spotted a 53-yearold
Hispanic man identifi ed
as Michael Panico, fl oating in
the water near the shoreline.
According to law enforcement,
sources said, Panico was
unresponsive, fully clothed
and had chains around his
feet.
Police removed him from the water,
and EMS units pronounced him dead
at the scene. His body was transported
to the Medical Examiner’s offi ce for an
autopsy to determine the cause of death.

St. Albans
Senior woman dies
in hit-and-run
A 70-year-old woman has died of her
injuries aft er being struck by a car in a hitand
run in St. Albans.
According to police, at 7 a.m. on Sept.
25, offi cers from the 113th Precinct
responded to a 911 call regarding a vehicle
collision at Linden Boulevard and 169
Street. Upon their arrival, offi cers found
Clara Duran-Rodriguez, 70, lying in the
road with trauma to her head and hips.
A preliminary investigation found that
Duran-Rodriguez was heading west on
Linden Boulevard when she attempted to
cross the street midblock. She was then
struck by an unknown vehicle, which fl ed
the scene aft er they hit Duran-Rodriguez.
EMS responded to the location and
rushed Duran-Rodriguez to Jamaica
Hospital, where she was pronounced
dead.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Th e investigation is ongoing.
115th Precinct
Jackson Heights
Suspect who left victim in
car outside store caught
Police have arrested a man who is
allegedly responsible for the murder of
a man found inside of a car outside of a
Jackson Heights auto part store.
At 7:02 a.m. on Sept. 30, police responded
to a 911 call regarding an assault at
an Auto Zone store located at 95-01
Northern Blvd. Upon their arrival, they
found Darryl Whitfi eld, 26, in the back
seat of a parked car, unconscious and
unresponsive, with trauma to his head.
EMS responded to the location and
declared Whitfi eld dead at the scene.
On Oct. 2, police arrested Careem
Holder, 30, who allegedly admitted to
carrying a handgun with him on two
occasions and returning to the scene to
destroy evidence.
At this time, it is unknown what the
motive behind the incident is; however,
the death has been ruled a homicide by
the Medical Examiner.
Police recovered a silver Smith &
Wesson .357-caliber handgun from
Holder and charged him with two counts
on criminal possession of a weapon and
one count of tampering with physical evidence.
Additional charges are pending
the results of the ongoing investigation.
