Making Strides walk helps Queens
residents battle breast cancer

Th e American Cancer Society is
holding Making Strides Against
Breast Cancer of Queens Oct. 21
as a fundraiser and celebration of
breast cancer survivors.
Th e event will feature survivors,
caretakers and people from all walks
of life who are passionate about saving
lives from breast cancer.
About 15,000 participants are
expected. People of all ages are
encouraged to walk. Th e route is
also stroller-, walker- and wheelchair
accessible so that as many
people as possible can join in.
Th is is the 25th annual fundraiser.
Making Strides of Queens aims
to raise $706,000 for breast cancer
awareness this year, making it one
of the highest fundraising walks in
the country.
Th e walk will start and at at the
Fountain of the Planets, which is
just a brief walk away from the designated
parking area at the Citi
Field southfi eld lot.
Event registration will begin at
8 a.m. Th e walk will commence,
whether rain or shine, aft er the ribbon
cutting at 10 a.m. and last three
miles. Th e route will be designated
by pink arrows and volunteers
cheering walkers on. Th e event will
end at noon.
Th ere will be water stations
through the course of the walk and
a refreshment tent at the fi nish line.
Making Strides of Queens will
also feature a large Festival Area
with live entertainment, sponsor
tents, photographers and a fully
stocked Pink Store with American
Cancer Society merchandise.

donate online or in person at the
event.
