is halfway over; come

through. The performing
arts center at York College
is hosting a storytelling night
from 7 to 9 p.m. The event
will be full of both professional
and amature story tellers
sharing their Latin experience
with the audience. This
free event will be an intimate
gathering of individuals
Banned Books Week is in full swing. Read and discuss your favorite banned book with hopes of winning a prize.
This event hosted at the Woodhaven library is free and does not require registration. The book discussion takes

4 Come learn about
how negative stereotypes
positively impact the
image of black people in
pop culture. The speaker
will explore the idea behind
stereotypes present in television
and movies and how
they pose questions about
American society and black
culture. This talk will feature
a special screening on
clips that help explain the
premise of the book “Double
Negative: The Black Image
and Popular Culture” by
Racquel J. Gates. Gates is
an assistant professor at the
College of Staten Island, with
a focus on representation
of race in pop culture. The
screening and talk will be
followed by a book signing.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $11
for seniors and $9 for youth
ages 3 to 17 years old. Tickets
may be purchased online at
movingimage.us. The evening
event located at 36-01
35th Ave., Astoria, and begins
at 7:30pm. The event will
be approximately 90 minutes

SATURDAY, SEPT. 29
6 Home is where the
heart is and at this
performance the human
body is home. “My Body, My
Country” will question the
human body’s relation with
an individual’s identity. The
Queens Museum is hosting
a dance theater performance
and body mapping workshop
with Annabella Lenzu from
2 to 4 p.m. The Argentinian
choreographer will lead an
event that welcomes people
of all ages and backgrounds.
The dance performance will
be followed by a 10-minute
Q&A session as well as
the interactive workshop.
The body mapping workshop
invites participants to share
stories about their body
through the use of texts and
drawings. Attendance is free
with the suggested museum
admission, adults are $8
and seniors are $4. Tickets
are free for students, children
under 18 and New York CIty
Department of Education
employees. The event will
be at the Queens Museum,
which is located in Flushing
Meadows Corona Park. For
