(August 15, 2018, Jamaica Queens, NY) – Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (JCAL)
proudly announces its 9th season of Making Moves Dance Festival taking place at
the Jamaica Performing Arts Center (JPAC) on September 21 and September 22, 2018.
This 9th edition of the annual dance festival promises to be a wider representation
of the diversity of dance. It has been extended into a two-day program featuring
more than 15 acclaimed and emerging dance companies and artists from across
Queens and all Borough of New York. This year’s festival has a greater opportunity
to represent the cultural diversity that is New York City’s community.
The theme this year – Presenting Bold Ideas continues JCAL’s commitment to
support new and young dance companies with an opportunity to be presented on
professional stages, indoor and outdoor with artists that create work for site-specific
works as well. This year’s Festival is a wave of artists who are technically powerful
and creatively bold, proudly presenting their cultural heritage through dance. We
are honored to include so many forms of dance on JPAC’s stages and offer the
community of Jamaica an opportunity to experience the profound creative work of
both established and emerging talent.
“JCAL has invested a lot of resources to build the Jamaica Performing Arts Center
as the leading presenter for contemporary dance in Queens and beyond. The rich
cultural heritages and talents that exist in the community need a center that is not
only a stage but also a home and we are that center.” said JCAL Executive Director
Cathy Hung.
Making Moves Dance Festival will kick-off JCAL’s 2018 flagship dance season by
offering a diverse menu of dance for today’s audiences. Over 15 choreographers
and 45 dance artists will perform throughout Jamaica Performing Arts Center (JPAC)
indoors and on the outdoor stage.
